Couple arrested in MP for using counterfeit money in stores

COUNTERFEIT -- Two suspects identified as Anthony S. Agustin of Ballesteros of Cagayan and Maylene Umma Velasco of Ifugao and presently residing at Bicutan, Taguig City were arrested by personnel of Paracelis Municipal Police Station after some storeowners of Barangay Poblacion complained against them for using counterfeit money. The public is advised to be cautious when transacting with money to avoid being victimized. -- Mountain Province PNP


PARACELIS, Mountain Province – Two suspects caught using and having in their possession suspected counterfeit money were arrested on May 11 in this town.

The suspects were identified as Anthony S. Agustin, 38, a resident of Ballesteros, Cagayan, and his live-in partner Maylene Velasco, 33, a native of Asipulo, Ifugao, and resident of Bicutan, Taguig City.

The incident happened about 7 p.m. of May 11 at Poblacion, Paracelis, victimizing business owners identified as Dominga Alinao, Elsa Jimenez, Dolores Chuga, and Berlindo Vergara, all Poblacion residents.

Based on investigation, the suspects went to the different stores of the victims and bought using a P1,000 bill.

After they left, the store owners noticed that the money is not genuine, prompting them to report to Paracelis Municipal Police Station.

Responding personnel were able to locate and apprehend the two suspects at a hotel in the area through the statement of the complainants.

PNP personnel searched the personal belongings of the suspects and discovered inside the back pack of Agustin 32 pieces of P1,000 bills with the same serial number RJ074346 and 10 pieces more of the same denomination with the same serial number BS879477.

A case is now being prepared by Paracelis MPS against the two suspects.
