Pageant hopefuls in Bontoc given free makeup trainings
by Alpine L. Killa

BONTOC, Mountain Province – Candidates for the Miss Am-among 2018 are now equipped with the knowledge, techniques, and skills in beauty care after undergoing free training on how to apply makeup.

This is to help them apply their own makeup when attending social gatherings as part of their responsibilities as candidates of Miss Am-among.

The committee also believes that through the training, the candidates would gain competencies which they may use to earn income even while studying.

The municipal government through the Committee for Miss Am-among and Mr. Am-among (Body Physique) 2018 earlier requested the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority-Provincial Office to include the candidates in its training programs.

In response to this request, Tesda, under Provincial Director Eric O. Ueda, identified the Arete Technological Training Center to train the candidates.

The Arete Technological Training Center is a registered technical-vocational institution partner, which offers beauty care and massage therapy among other programs.

Christine M. Oliquiano of the Tesda-provincial office said that this is a community-based training program that seeks to address the specific skills needs of communities and promote employment through entrepreneurial, self-employment, and service-oriented activities.

Tesda provided the training fee or the honorarium of the trainer and the makeup used by the candidates.

She said that the candidates must complete 80 hours of training and must undergo an assessment before the issuance of a Certificate of Competency.

The Certificate of Competency is valid for five years and the candidates may upgrade their skills to be granted the Beauty Care-National Certificate II.
