An Army general from Mountain Province took the helm as commander of the Army Signal Regiment during turnover rites at Fort Bonifacio in Manila last week.

The ASR is the Army’s sole provider of signal support and services. It aims to provide one network for the Philippine Army through its various transformation initiatives.

B/Gen. Milton Y. Beset has replaced B/Gen. Vener Odilon D. Mariano as the ASR regiment commander during change of command ceremony administered by Philippine Army Commanding General, Lt/Gen. Cirilito Sobejana.

An Electronics and Communications Engineering graduate of Saint Louis University, Beset entered the military through the Officer Candidate School which paved the way for him to be a military commissioned officer.

Beset has served as deputy J6, of the Armed Forces of the Philippines prior to his assumption. He also served as assistant chief of staff for the Army’s Command and Control, Communications, and Cyber Systems.

Under Mariano’s leadership, the command was able to enhance the Army’s cyber competencies and operations by strengthening the Army’s command and control, communications and cyber systems capabilities and ensured its readiness especially in the midst of Covid-19 pandemic.

ASR has orchestrated the installation of the audio-visual system for video-teleconferences, enabled the e-Learning System of Training and Doctrine Command, and pursued the implementation of the document tracking system of the Army’s headquarters.

The unit has also established its responsiveness by deploying mobile command centers and repair and response team, and by establishing a training facility that made the forces more effective in heeding the tasks of unified commands.
