Recycling seen to help solve solid waste problems in MP
by Erwin S. Batnag

BONTOC, Mountain Province – The creation of products from recycled materials are being eyed as one of the initiatives to solve the problem on solid wastes in the province.

This was among the goals of a training workshop on waste recycling conducted by the provincial government through the Environment and Natural Resources Office.

The workshop focused on the creation of income-generating projects using solid wastes as raw materials.

It aimed to promote the reduce, re-use, and recycle principle and alternative technology for waste diversion.

The two-day workshop consisted of lectures, demonstrations, and training on how to make flower vases, foot rugs, potholders, pouches, table runners, hats, and furniture decorations from used clothes, plastics, and other materials.

Gov. Bonifacio C. Lacwasan, Jr.; Vice-Gov. Francis O. Tauli; and Board Member Joshua B. Fornda, sangguniang panlalawigan chair of the committee on health, sanitation, and social services graced the activity.

Lacwasan said that the provincial government wants to enhance the skills of the participants to engage on income-generating projects using solid wastes.

Tauli and Fronda vowed support to the undertaking by looking into initiatives that would sustain the project.
