This year’s Panagbenga with the theme “Inspired by beauty, nurtured by nature” continues to buttress the festival’s status as the most sought-after event this time of the year with flower-bedecked floats making the community-driven festival distinct from any other festival in Southeast Asia.
Twenty-two floats were paraded before thousands of people who lined up along Baguio’s central business district, as throngs of visitors even slept on pavements along Session Road just to secure a good spot when they watch the parade.
Different flower varieties were used to decorate the intricately-designed floats showcasing the craftsmanship and ingenuity of local float makers who were mostly behind the creation of the outstanding floats for two decades now.
The day before, the crowd was treated with spectacular performances by street dancers and drum and lyre groups, who came from different schools and places.
Panagbenga is the only accredited festival in the Philippines by the International Festival and Events Association. Featured here are some of the highlights of the festival as captured by Midland Courier’s Ofelia Empian and Harley Palangchao
