Disciples of Wushu from this mountain city once again proved their worth in the recently concluded National Wushu Championships held at the Rizal Memorial Sports Center in Manila.
Female and male Baguio athletes breezed their way through different categories of Wushu from hand forms, Chang Quan-Long Fist to Nan Quan-Southern Fist and styles using short and long weapons to the more famous Tai Chi Quan.
For Taolu event, Faith Liana Andaya garnered 2 golds and1 silver, John Keithly Chan - 2 golds, Dave Salazar - 2 golds, Michael Angelo Marcelo - 2 golds, Kariza Kris Chan - 2 golds, Vanessa Jo Chan - 1 gold and 1 bronze, Kathlynne Sabalburo-1 gold and 1 bronze, Jane Valencerina - 1 gold, Maria Isabel Zabala - 1 gold and 1 silver, Daniella Kirsta Irmscher - 1 gold, Jean Michael Salazar - 1 gold, Thornton Queiney Lou Sayan - 1 gold, Alecris Gomez - 1 gold and 1 silver, Aristotle Estino - 2 silvers, Solomon Xavier Cardenas - 2 silvers, Maringay Santiago - 2 silvers, Jacob Jec Razel Addagan - 1 silver, Mark Reginald Guidangen - 1 silver and 1 bronze, Tiffany Chan - 1 silver and 1 bronze, Adrian Clarke Dee - 1 silver, Natasha Laxamana - 1 silver, Brian Kevin Salazar - 2 bronzes while Raphael Tuazon, Abel Baclangen, Francesca Loise Rebundal Jamon, Mary Joyce Wally, Dustin Chan, Engelbert Addongan and Julie Pacleb got one bronze medal each.
For the Sanshou event, 9 Baguio athletes brought home the gold in different weight categories namely, Marlyn Wacdisen (UC), Lito Adiwang (UB), Antoncel Nepagtic (UC), Gina Iniong (UC), Zephania Ngaya (UC), Baltazar Cacay Jr. (UC), Marlon Bum-mahat (UB), Jerome Wanawan (UC), Gilbert Manalo (UC).
Six brought home silvers namely Clarence Onanat (UC), Jon-jon Capda (UB), Benito Amado Jr. (UC), Roldan Sangcha-an (UC), Crisanto Pipitunge (UC) and Brent Gacita (Baguio Team) while five raked in bronze Sharma Buteng (UC), Ric Myler Empil (UB), Steward Osting (Baguio Team), Igor Donga-el (UC) and Johnson Kayachen (UB).
The Baguio delegation brought home 18 golds, 14 silvers, and 13 bronzes in Taolu and raked in nine golds, six silvers, and five bronzes in Sanshou.
The team headed by Baguio-Benguet Wushu President Antonio Candelaria were recognized during last Mondays Flag raising ceremonies at the City Hall grounds.
The group will be fighting again this coming November in the ASIA games in China and ASIA Jrs in Singapore in December.
