Another Igorot mixed martial arts fighter is expected to see action in the biggest MMA promotions following his impressive win via head kick knock-out in Almaty, Kazakhstan recently.
Words and video of Roldan “The Executioner” Sangcha-an of the famed Team Lakay knocking down his opponent spread like wildfire in the World Wide Web a few hours after his victory.
Sangcha-an, 22, from Sadanga, Mountain Province and a graduate of BS Teacher Education at the University of the Cordilleras, knocked down three-time world champion Assulan Toktarbaev before his opponent’s hometown crowd within five minutes of the very first round.
Toktarbaev was reported to have won 41 of his 43 MMA fights while Sangcha-an improved his MMA record to four wins with no loss.
Sangcha-an, who made his debut in international fight, escaped a possible tap-out within three minutes of the first round when Toktarbaev also held him via choke.
The Igorot fighter, who was escorted by Team Lakay head coach Mark Sangiao to the former capital of Kazakhstan, managed to bring back the fight to standing duel before he released a vicious right kick to the head of his opponent.
The Kazakhstan fighter managed to stand but the referee called it over.
Team Lakay des-cribed Sangcha-an as one of the best upcoming fighters of the MMA gym that was ranked as one of the top five best MMA gyms in Asia.
Online publication The Fight Nation, which covers a wide range of MMA events in Asia, in its latest issue ranked Team Lakay the third best MMA gym next to number one Evolve MMA, which is based in Singapore and Korean Top Team.
It credited the team’s methods of training that produced some of the most durable, tough and aggressive fighters in all of Asia.
At present, Team Lakay boasts of 20 active fighters led by URCC champions Eduard Folayang, Honorio Banario, Kevin Belingon and Roy Docyogen. The fighters also saw action in the One Ultimate Fighting Champion, the biggest MMA promotion in Asia.
