Taekwondo djinns and arnis players saved Team Cordilleras as they grabbed the over-all crown in the ongoing 2012 Palarong Pambansa in Lingayen, Pangasinan.
The djinns made up for losses in the tracks and tanks as they dominated the mat anew by winning three of the four team events.
Team Cordillera went to win the elementary boys and high school girls and boys even as the elementary girls bowed to the Big City djinns to settle for second place.
Cordillera’s elementary boys had a 22.7 score to win the gold in the team event.
The CAR’s secondary division composed of Angelina Goyce Gaw, Tristan Dale Cayago, and John Gervin Astrologio grabbed gold each in individual poomsae while in the elementary division, Krizelle Therese Yadao, Eiron Biscocho, and Luigi Paolo Wong all settled for bronze each.
For group poomsae event, Luigi Paolo Wong, Clyde Duday, Eiron Biscocho (elementary boys division), Angelina Joyce Gaw, Phoebi Kate De Guzman, Leslie Agyamoc (secondary girls division), Tristan Dale Cayago, Christian Duntugan, and Cromwell King Quiambao (secondary boys division) won gold each while Krizelle Therese Yadao, Josephine Pistola, and Mary Ceniza Quiambao settled for silver.
For taekwondo sparring event, Luigi Paolo Wong won another gold, Mary Ceniza Quiambao won silver, and Charles Andrie Duguiawe, Josephine Pistola, Ezra Sagaoc, and Kristian Mamitag all settled for bronze each.
In arnis, the region’s arnisadores have three silver medals and another bronze.
Hans Oliver Magallis had a silver in the anyo individual event double identical weapon with a score of 93.21 and another silver in the anyo team event single weapon with Aaron Balansi, and Josh Monroe Yalong.
Magallis teamed up with Balansi and Richard Zambon then bagged another silver in the anyo team event double identical weapon.
In the elementary division, the anyo team mixed double identical weapon brought home a bronze medal composed of Ezarai Yalong, Erci Cagawa, Rojan Belino, and Sharon Guindalos.
CAR’s secondary Boys Arnis Team was crowned the over-all champion in their category besting 16 other regions.
The secondary girls also were crowned first runner-up for Anyo Team event.
Ezaria Yalong grabbed the only gold for CAR during the competitions in Arnis-Labanan which brings CAR’s total in Arnis to one gold, 15 silvers, and 11 bronze medals.
The tracksters could only show two golds, two silvers, and two bronze medals.
Regan Contic provided the region’s first gold by heaving the discus throw to 40.01 meters at the Narciso Ramos Sports and Civic Center in Lingayen, Pangasinan and took the top podium by at least two meters.
The high schooler defeated Richee Joy Cabanlos from Western Visayas and Aries Camporedondo of Socsargen, who settled for second and third, respectively.
Baguio’s Jasmine Felix bagged another gold in athletics for Cordillera region Thursday morning in winning the secondary 100 meters hurdles with a time of 15.6 seconds as the region eyes a better finish in this year’s staging of the Palarong Pambansa.
Abra’s Hyleen Felino snatched the silver in the javelin throw event for elementary girls after heaving the spear to 34.48 meters, just a handspan short of Efrelyn Democer of Northern Mindanao Region, who took home the gold after a 35.18 meter effort.
Meantime in athletics, CAR’s Jasmin Felix grabbed gold in secondary girls 100-meter hurdles.
This was also followed by a gold from secondary boys Raegan Contic in discus throw and silver from Arnold Galap for 5000 meter run for secondary boys.
Batang Pinoy gold medalist Jenkins Agabao, meanwhile failed to land a medal after finishing fourth in the 200 meters butterfly.
The Palarong Pambansa formally opened on May 6 where around 10,000 athletes, coaches, and sports officials from public and private elementary and high schools nationwide are participating.
Lingayen is hosting the national sports competition, an annual event intended to develop the sports potentials of students from public schools all over the country.
