De La Salle, NU are 2012 PVF inter–collegiate champions

Players from two visiting schools ruled the 2012 Philippine Volleyball Federation National Intercollegiate Volleyball Championship held in La Trinidad, Benguet over the weekend.

National University and De La Salle University fashioned out separate victories to crown themselves the men and women’s champions at the close of the national tournament.

Number one seed La Salle won the crown for the fourth time after rallying down in the last three sets against University of Perpetual Help System Dalta.

Most valuable player Abigail Maraño led Dela Salle in a heartbreaking win after four sets, 21-25, 28-26, 25-9, 25-18, before the crowd at the Cordillera Career Development College gymnasium.

The champion team scored an upset against St. Benilde College in the semi-finals in three sets, 25-20, 25-14, 25-15.

Aside from the MVP award to Maraño, the other individual awardees were: best server - Arnie Yumul (EAC); best receiver - Norie Jane Diaz (UPHSD); best blocker - Sandra Delos Santos (UPHSD); best libero - Rica Jane Endona (St. Benilde); best attacker - Victoria Galang (DLSU); best setter - Mikaela Esperanza (DLSU); and best coach - Ramil De Jesus (DLSU).

The National University Bulldogs meanwhile dumped Dela Salle spikers in three sets 25-19, 25-17, 25-15, to win the men’s side of the tournament.

Before the finals, the Bulldogs scored a lopsided win against Perpetual Help in three sets, 25-14, 25-23, 25-15 while Dela Salle defeated University of the East in five sets, 23-25, 25-17, 25-14, 22-25, 15-13, to reach the finals.

NU’s Jan Berlin Paglinawan won the MVP plum in the men’s side while the other awardees were: best server - Jay-ar Dela Cruz (UPHSD); best receiver - Philip Cerveza (DLSU); best blocker - Peter Renmark Torres (NU); best libero - Bernard Casnova (DLSU); best attacker - Ruben Inaudito (NU); best setter - Vincent Mangulabnan; and best coach - Allan Oliver (NU).
