Trailrunners Jomar Buclay and Melanie Hingit emerged as top winners in the 50-kilometer category of the 2017 Benguet Gold Rush held in the scenic trails of Barangay Ampucao in Itogon, Benguet.

Buclay, who placed second in last year’s event, improved his record with seven hours, 59 minutes and 30.58 seconds to cap this year’s footrace of local running group Team Malaya.

Alfonso Ampalo Jr. followed in second place with eight hours, 53 minutes and 34.19 seconds time while Eleazer Axis Gatonen came in third place with 10 hours, 33 minutes and 47.26 seconds.

Hingit, meanwhile championed the women’s category with 11 hours, 49 minutes and 06.98 seconds becoming the lone female, who placed ninth place in the overall 50K race out of 11 participants.

Jet Ramos, one-fifth of the ironman athlete Ramos family, is the top winner in the 21K male clocking in at two hours, 42 minutes and 23.44 seconds.

Last year’s champion, Louie Ganayan followed seconds later with two hours, 42 minutes and 29.67 seconds time on second place, improving his record from last year’s 03:22:34.86 time. Julius Magnaye trails him with three hours, one minute and 19.29 seconds on third place.

The race featured trail routes that allows runners to witness the breathtaking view of the Philex Ridge going through pine forests, rolling grasslands, with views of the rocky mountain ridges of the area.

The Philex Ridge has several mountain peaks with the highest peak called Mount Ulap. Runners get to see a bird’s eye view of Baguio, Binga Dam, the rest of Itogon and some parts of Tuba town while going through the event’s trail routes.
