LEPANTO GOLF CHAMPS -- Lepanto Consolidated Mining Company Vice President and Resident Manager Thomas Consolacion (center) presents the champions in the 1st Lepanto Golf Cup held at the Baguio Country Club on weekend. The winners are (from left) John Fomaneg for seniors, Marianne Bustos for ladies, Sonny Liwan for men’s A, and Eddie Borromeo for men’s B. -- Harley Palangchao

A caddy and a winsome lass topped the inaugural Lepanto Golf Cup that drew close to a hundred par busters at the Baguio Country Club fairways last week.

Camp John Hay caddy Sonny Liwan fired a gross of 64 less his seven course handicap for a net of 57 to win the premier men’s Class A.

Liwan had two birdies that secured him to the top place ahead of first runner-up Ramir Badua of Lepanto Golf Association who also fired a gross 64 less his six handicap for a net of 57.

Mar Bustos completed the men’s A winners as 2nd runner-up with a net of 59.

Lepanto Mines Division Asst. Resident Manager Eddie Borromeo championed the men’s Class B with a net of 60 followed by Louie Leganzo and lawyer Ramon Alimba as first and second runners-up, respectively.

Mine consultant John Fomaneg had a net of 60 to rule the senior’s division with Deo Halog and Cesar Romualdo trailing him as first and second runner-up respectively.

Marianne Bustos fired a gross 70 less her 11-course handicap for a net of 59 to become the champion in the ladies division.

Bustos scored a birdie at hole 7 and had four pars that made her score even better than many of the men’s Class A players who participated in the tournament that employed System 36 scoring system.

Mankayan Assessor Donald Daganos won the nearest pin to the award for closing the ball at two feet and four inches at hole 1 while Raymond Mondejar reached 300 yards at hole 3 to earn the longest drive award.

Rey Yabes’ one feet distance at hole 8 earned him the most accurate drive special award.

Engr. Thomas Consolacion, Lepanto Consolidated Mining Company resident manager, thanked all the players and the sponsors for supporting the tournament, which is part of the 81st anniversary of the company.

Consolacion said the company plans to conduct the tournament yearly.
