Baguio judokas ready for BP finals

The recent staging of the Baguio Young Men’s Christian Association-Kaitagi Judo Cup on Aug. 26 helped prepare young athletes in the Cordillera for the upcoming Batang Pinoy national finals competition this month.

The winners in the lightweight boys novice division were Paul Aquino on first place followed by Samuel Diño and Aldrin Albores who completed the top three athletes in the event that was coordinated by the Cordillera Judo Association in partnership with the YMCA-Kaitagi Judo Club.

The lightweight boys division saw Zai Jhan Corpuz topping the event followed by Phoenix Addug and Zachary Pineda. In the lightweight girls division, Sophia Aquino emerged as the winner over Daphne Pineda on second place.

Yñigo Ramos led the half middleweight boys division on first place followed by Paglaya De Villa on second place while Ulysses Addug and Yuri Niwane settled for the third place.

Zoey Itliong took the top spot overpowering Jeza Bulayungan on second place while Tala Tadeo and Kaye Ales settled for third place in the middleweight girls division.

The middleweight boys division was championed by Elquiko Quelino followed by Gael Alberto and Aeon Kim. 

In the heavyweight boys division, Leerenz Tindaan took the first place against Jammil Lorenzo while Marco Sotero and Christian Anore tied for the third spot.

The distaff side of the division saw Aliyana Mae Lorenzo topping it with Nikita Guzman on and Fiona Merino winning silver and bronze, respectively.

Participants for the judo competition of the Batang Pinoy national finals are composed of 27 athletes from the city which was formed during the recent regional tournament slated at YMCA judo central gym.

The city’s judo team has always been the top contender for the Batang Pinoy competition, raking in medals that helped propel the city to top spot in previous years.
