The first Asec. Marie Rafael Cup drew hundreds of participants from the Cordillera with practical shooters from Baguio and Benguet dominating most of the categories.

The tournament held on Jan. 5 and 6 at the Camp Dangwa Firing Range raised funds for victims and survivors of Typhoon Rosita in eastern Mountain Province, especially Natonin, hometown of Presidential Communications Operations Office Asec. Rafael.

Melvin Calde topped the classic aggregate followed by Ryan del Rosario, Jake Abluyen, Jtee Aquino, and Gilbert Mangliwan, while the open aggregate saw Ingiemar Cheng winning as champion followed by Danny Mangallay.

Metadio Patting topped the production aggregate followed by Sherwin Gomez, Luther Ngayudan, Van Nisperos, and Charles Molina while the standard aggregate was won by Arnold Unabia followed by Ogie Sy, Randy Obra, Jacklord Asdriano, and Melvin Napiloy.

The lawman standard category was topped by Reynante Bastian followed by Roldan Pa-ay while Ruel Lapena topped the lawman classic followed by Ric Patting then Neil Carias clinched the lawman production followed by Romando Almoite.

The other champions are Arby Bastian for PCC rifle; Jeannette Campos for lady standard; Merriam Puddunan for lady classic; Bernie Casusi for senior classic; Dayan Bangcawayan for lady production; Gilbert Ationan for senior production; Don Malatag for senior standard; Bongski Arevalo for super senior; Kevin Campos for junior standard, and Joseph Zambrano for media.

Rafael has initiated the event with the support of Police Regional Office-Cordillera through its director, C/Supt. Rolando Nana, and supporters and sponsors from the government and private sectors.

The eastern towns of Barlig, Natonin, and Paracelis were greatly affected by landslides caused by Typhoon Rosita in October.

In Natonin alone, around 30 individuals perished from the rubbles of the buildings of the Department of Public Works and Highways with 24 bodies recovered while six are still missing.
