Gabutan vies for WBA regional belt in China
by Harley F. Palangchao

COMEBACK FIGHT -- Mountain Province boxing pride Dayer Gabutan will vie for the vacant World Boxing Association-Asia super bantamweight belt in China on Jan. 17 against the 24-year-old Ge An Ma. -- Harley Palangchao

Mountain Province boxing pride Dayer Gabutan will face an undefeated Chinese boxer for the vacant World Boxing Association-Asia super bantamweight belt in China on Jan. 17.

“I’m ready for battle and my camp is confident that we will win the bout,” said the 30-year-old Gabutan, who decided to continue his college studies.

He will face 24-year-old Ge An Ma in Diao Bing Shan, China, who he aims to defeat this time after losing to a Chinese boxer in 2018.

But Gabutan has to step up his training as Ge An Ma is undefeated in five bouts with one coming by way of knockout.

Gabutan, who now has 20 wins with 11 by way of KOs and with seven defeats, was defeated by Chinese boxer Zong Li He in their title bout for the vacant World Boxing Council-Asian Boxing Council silver super flyweight match in May 2018.

A cut on the right eyebrow due to head butt distracted the former regional (Asia) boxing champion Gabutan in clinching the belt.

Gabutan is the former World Boxing Organization Oriental bantamweight champion. He won the belt via unanimous decision against Jilo Merlin in Angeles City on July 17, 2010.

His latest victim was Roilo Golez, a former WBC-Asian Boxing Council minimum flyweight champion, who he defeated via technical knockout in September 2017.
