Belingon to face Fernandes in fourth ONE title rematch
by Harley F. Palangchao

FOURTH TITLE REMATCH -- Team Lakay’s Kevin Belingon will face reigning ONE bantamweight world champion Bibiano Fernandes for the fourth time in one of the blockbuster bouts in the 100th event of ONE in Tokyo, Japan in October. -- ONE photo

The much-awaited championship rematch between ONE bantamweight world champion Bibiano Fernandes and Kevin Belingon has been set Oct. 13 in Tokyo, Japan.

ONE Chief Executive Officer Chatri Sityodtong announced last week that the fourth title rematch between two of the most dominant mixed martial arts bantamweight fighters in the world will be one of the main cards of the blockbuster fight night in Asia.

Fight fans around the world were dismayed during the third fight between Belingon and Fernandes when the world championship bout ended in a quick referee stoppage due to supposed illegal blows from Belingon.

With Belingon disqualified in that title bout, the world belt was awarded to Fernandes, much to the dismay of fight fans worldwide.

Sityodtong made good of his promise that a rematch will be arranged before the year ends, thus the fourth title bout between Belingon and Fernandes.

He also announced that ONE atom weight world champion Angela Lee will defend her 115-pound gold strap belt against challenger Xiong Jingnan, who is the current ONE world female straw weight champion.

Jingnan delivered Lee her first defeat when the Chinese champion finished the latter with strikes in the fifth round of the championship bout, also in Japan last March.

Also in the stacked Japan card is the world championship bout between two-division champion Aung La Nsang and world heavyweight Brandon Vera.

La Nsang is the current ONE light heavyweight and middleweight world champion.

Sityodtong also announced that the Japan fight night, which is the promotion’s 100th event, will feature the ONE featherweight kickboxing world championship and the ONE lightweight and flyweight world Grand Prix.

ONE will also feature the Japan super fights where Shooto and Pancrase champions will be in the undercards.
