Labor Department lawyer Ramir Badua emerged as the overall champion in the 2nd Pines Kumpadres Golf Club, Inc. (PKGCI) following his back-to-back victories in the crucial match plays at the Pinewoods Golf and Country Club last week.

The single handicapper Badua first dislodged fellow elite par busters in the class A division before facing businessman Pol Mayos in the championship game at the par-69 fairway.

Coming into the finals, Badua ranked third with three wins, two losses, and one draw, trailing elimination leader Mayos, who had four wins, one loss, and one draw; and second to Karlo Munar, who had four wins and two losses.

Last year’s champion, lawyer Soc Suayan, was also among the roster of class A players but failed to advance in the finals match along with Eric Espadero, Dai Tsuchia, and PKGCI president Bernard Capuyan.

Engr. Melchor Licoben of Benguet Electric Cooperative topped the class B by outpointing election lawyer Rex Balong-angey in their finals match.

Balong-angey conceded to Licoben at midway at the back nine, but the game continued in a par or better mode of play.

Others who played better games in class B were Edwin Macgui-ing, Warren Dagupon, Ruben Bugnosen, Bobbie Comides, and the indefatigable lawyer George Dumawing.

The annual PKGCI aims to improve the golfing skills of members while it promotes the value of integrity and honesty among all participants, who must ensure strict adherence to a standard value or conduct while in and out of the fairway.
