Baguio City will field around 300 delegates to the Batang Pinoy 2019 national finals in Puerto Princesa City in Palawan next month.

City Sports Coordinator Gaudencio Gonzales said that athletes from this mountain resort are expected to dominate combative sports events during the competition set Aug. 25 to 31.

Over the years, Baguio athletes have been dominating the national finals of Batang Pinoy with combative athletes bringing home bulk of the medals won for the city.

This year, Gonzales expressed confidence that Baguio athletes will make their presence strongly felt in Palawan after placing second to Laguna during the Luzon leg of Batang Pinoy in Isabela where Baguio athletes won 36 gold, 47 silver, and 60 bronze medals behind Laguna’s 38-35-36 overall medal tally.

Laguna dominated the swimming competition with 13 gold, 20 silver, and 12 bronze medals while clinching additional five gold medals in arnis and two gold medals apiece in athletics and badminton.

Baguio won 10 gold medals in taekwondo and nine in archery while third placer Quezon City bagged 24 gold, 19 silver, and 11 bronze medals in the tournament organized by the Philippine Sports Commission for students and out-of-school youth 15 years old and below.

Pangasinan ranked fourth with 23-24-26 medals followed by Pasig City with 22-24-27 medals then Taguig City with 19-17-28 medals and Dasmariñas City, Cavite with 18-10-15 medals.
