Two female bodybuilders brought pride to Baguio after winning in their respective categories in the Show of Strength 2019 bodybuilding  competition Nov. 3 at Palacio de Maynila, Manila.

Mye Eugenio topped the women’s figure and placed second in the women’s physique while her teammate, Angelyn Gapas, placed second in the bikini short and third place in the bikini open category during the event backed by the International Federation of Bodybuilding and Fitness International.

Their teammate, Mark John Gapas, won fourth place in the junior physique, fifth in the physique new, and fifth in the physique short open.

The athletes are from Team Murphy of the Murphy’s Fitness Gym in Baguio.

The Baguio bodybuilders earlier won in the Muscle Beach Bali, Indonesia Grand Prix 2019, Oct. 26, as part of the IFBB Philippine Team, which placed second and third in the women’s wellness and women’s body fitness earning them their IFBB international card for the event.

Eugenio, who is an international certified fitness trainer of Murphy’s Fitness Gym, said they competed with bodybuilders from other countries such as Spain, Russia, Singapore, Vietnam, Malaysia, and Thailand.

“We’ve been on a strict diet for almost six months, starting last June up to the competition,” Eugenio said.

She is the one who encouraged her student, Gapas, to go into bodybuilding.

Eugenio said they train six days a week, take protein-rich foods, and cut out carbs, bad fats and sugar in their diet. They recover and rest from training on Sundays.

She said one needs discipline, hard work, determination, and more importantly the support of one’s family in what they do.

As a fitness instructor, Eugenio is encouraging everyone to get into healthy lifestyle by having healthy diet and exercising regularly.

She said she has encouraged most of her students to lose weight and to be fit.

Eugenio and Gapas likewise won in the Phil Asia 2019 last July in Boracay where the former won in the women’s figure while the latter placed in the top three of the women’s bikini shape.

This win qualified them for the upcoming Ms. and Mr. Universe set Nov. 30 at Hamburg, Germany.

They are endorsed by the National Athletic Committee-Philippines to join the international bodybuilding event along with two other representatives from Cebu.

Eugenio, who earlier had a courtesy call with Mayor Benjamin Magalong, said they are now training for their international outing, as she said they are thankful for the support that the city gave them for the competition.
