Team Lakay chief wants Kingad-Adriano rematch
by Harley F. Palangchao

TITLE CONTENDER -- Team Lakay Chair Mark Sangiao is hopeful that flyweight contender Danny Kingad (right) will soon get a rematch with reigning ONE Championship flyweight world champion Adriano Moraes, who will soon defend his belt against former Ultimate Fighting Championship 12-time champion Demetrius Johnson. The chair of the most decorated mixed martial arts team in Southeast Asia is pushing for a possible rematch between his ward, Danny Kingad, and reigning ONE Championship flyweight world champion Adriano Moraes.

Team Lakay Chair Mark Sangiao said that Kingad has earned his right as one of the top contenders for the flyweight world belt, saying the Igorot fighter is ready to fight the reigning champion.

But the Team Lakay camp will have to wait for the result of the world championship bout between Moraes and top contender Demetrius Johnson, who defeated Kingad via unanimous decision in the ONE flyweight world Grand Prix last year.

Sangiao, however, claimed that Kingad is willing and ready to face Moraes whe-ther or not he is the champion.

“Danny has improved so much in just a span of three years. He has worked so hard in every facet of his game. There’s no stopping this young man from achieving his goals,” Sangiao said.

The 24-year-old Kingad suffered his first defeat as a professional MMA fighter in the hands of Moraes when he challenged the Brazilian champion for the world belt in November 2017.

Since then, Kingad has displayed tremendous improvements in his fight arsenal by nailing six impressive wins that earned him the right to fight Johnson, who is a 12-time world champion and one of the world’s longest pound-for-pound MMA kings.

“Fans will be surprised with just how good Danny is now compared to just a few months ago. He  used this time off wisely to refocus and rededicate himself to proving himself as one of the best in the world at his weight class,” Sangiao said.

Moraes is expected to defend his title against Johnson and Sangiao is confident Kingad would destroy Moraes now, regardless of whether or not the Brazilian remains champion after his bout with Johnson.
