POSF chief eyes OCR in Baguio
by Press release

Baguio might soon hold an obstacle course race (OCR) event once the race course at the Athletic Bowl is completed.

Pilipinas Obstacle Sports Federation (POSF) president Alberto Agra visited the Summer Capital recently to have a glimpse of the ongoing race course development and visited the mountain bike course along Barangay Loakan Proper.

Agra said his office might consider partnering with Virago Sports and Recreational Camp for the venue where they could train and conduct regular clinics for OCR.

Virago Sports and Recreational Camp manages the sprawling 3.6-hectare downhill and cross-country biking area that includes an archery range and trail running course.

Southeast Asian Games OCR gold medalist Sandi Abahan has assisted Agra in some of his inspection activities in the city.

Agra shared that OCR is being highly encouraged in the highlands, as Baguio athletes are known for their endurance reason that they excel in duathlon and triathlon competitions.

Among them is Abahan and other ultra-trail athletes, who are winning in national and international duathlon and triathlon competitions.

“Dito sa Baguio kahit saan pwedeng magkaroon ng obstacle course. Maganda yung ganito para mas challenging kasi the terrain itself is an obstacle. It is an added challenge for the athletes,” Agra told reporters recently.

Obstacle racing is a sport in which a competitor, traveling on foot, must overcome various physical challenges in the form of obstacles. These include the Spartan race and the popular American Ninja Warrior races, the latter being the inspiration of Abahan in joining the OCR.
