Special Athletes group lauds city’s hospitality

Two months after its successful stint here, the Special Athletes Bowling Association have not forgotten.

Some nine internationally be-medalled athletes from the SPABA experienced not only the exciting challenge but also the cool summer breeze and scenic beauty of Baguio City as well as the hospitality of its civic spirited citizens last April 3-8.

“Our adults with special needs had a rewarding and fruitful experience during our six days educational tour and bowling tournament,” said Cristy Gacuma of the SPABA and Special Olympics Philippines
On April 4, the first ever Unified Baguio Special Athletes Friendship Fun Bowl was held at the Puyat Sports center through the joint effort of FCEII-Teacher-Mom Foundation, a special school in Makati City, PSI (Purposeful Stewardship Inc.), Baguio Highlands Bowling Association (BHBA) and supported by Baguio Mayor Reinaldo A. Bautista Jr.

Participants in the events from NCR-South Chapter of Special Olympics are special athletes Anton Silos, Roxanne Ng, Jonathan Zulueta, Bryan Robles, Brian Galang, Robin Clarino, Lawrence Cruz, Carlos Alcantara, Gabby Gana; Special Olympics Baguio City Chapter: Alex Langato, Jenny Lim,Margie Walang, Bonifacio Alvarado, Charlie Manuel, Raymond Galiste, and Marjorie Lopez.

PSI is headed by Christopher So while BHBA is led by Don Liquete, Larry Choy and Chito Tee.

During the six-day sports environmental sojourn, the athletes took time to tour the city’s well known tourist spots such as Mines View Park, Good Shepherd Convent, Mansion House, Wright Park, Burnham Park, Tam-Awan Village, Bliss Café and Strawberry Farm where they enjoyed picking fresh strawberry fruits.

The athletes were also honored by Mayor Bautista for bringing honor to the country by winning medals in various international competitions of Special Olympics International.
