Gintong Puso Project

“If I can stop one heart from breaking, I shall not live in vain.” -- Emily Dickinson

True to its mission, the Baguio General Hospital Advisory Board with Ram Sharma as chairman in partnership with the Baguio General Hospital Medical Center headed by Director Ricardo Ruñez will embark on a “Gintong Puso” project aimed at helping indigent patients who have cleft lip or palate, clubfoot or clubfeet, and goiter. There are doctors who share this vision and are willing to provide treatment and surgery to patients suffering from these birth defects for free. The project extends to those suffering from goiter.

Goiter is a condition where the thyroid, located in the neck becomes enlarged. This is usually caused by iron deficiency. Hence, the BGH Advisory Board is now searching for patients. For readers who may encounter indigent patients, who need help, please get in touch with the BGH Advisory Board. There will be more information available in my succeeding columns.

Bless the generous heart of Philippine Information Agency Director Helen Tibaldo for choosing the Baguio Museum to take care of the small Ifugao hut at her former office at Barangay Lualhati across The Mansion.

April 12 was a memorable thanksgiving ceremony to invite good vibes for the transfer of her office to its new location at Insular Life building. Director Helen reiterates that service to the people takes priority wherever you are. Public service cannot be defined by spaces and the grandeur of offices or its four walls but the genuine sincerity to serve people. Cheers Dir. Helen and staff Joseph Zambrano, Redjie Cawis, and Jona Ponciano! It was also a chance meeting with my long-time idol manong Swanny Dicang. He is still funny and jolly and we shared a lot of good memories of old tourism days with Mr. Ben Andaya, my former boss. Oh yes, manong Swanny knows all the little secrets and wants people born in Baguio to defend the place of their birth.

Related to good hearts and gintong puso, may we request for your generous assistance to help indigent friend and patient, Carlos Manuel Lorenzo of Upper Pinget, Baguio City. He underwent angiogram when he suffered severe chest pains (stage of cardiac arrest) last December 2017 and was diagnosed with chronic stable angina. He was consequently advised by his doctor to undergo revascularization or angioplasty. He might need three to four stents in his heart. Angioplasty is an expensive procedure and his finances are already nil especially for the coming operation possibly end of this month and the subsequent medicines to sustain his condition. Carlos does volunteer work for the Don Bosco Parish Church. For those who want to help, you can contact him at 0905-561-0651 or send your generous donation to his BDO Session bank account no. 0054 7053 3191 or contact him at charles15ph@gmail.com. Thank you.
