The Department of Health-Cordillera has recorded 16 positive cases of the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) as confirmed by laboratory tests done by the Regional Institute of Tropical Medicine.
In its official announcement released March 30, the DOH-Cordillera reported that as of 5 p.m. of March 29, the 16 RITM confirmed cases are Baguio with 14 while Abra and Benguet have two cases each.
They are among the 215 cases from the region that were submitted for laboratory test. Of the number, 172 cases turned out negative, 16 are positive, and 27 are pending laboratory results.
The two positive case from Abra are a 39-year-old male who had travel history abroad while the 48-year-old male patient had a close contact with a positive case.
Those from Baguio have history of travel abroad, National Capital Region, with close contact with a positive case and one case of local transmission.
Those from Benguet are residents of La Trinidad involving a 34-year-old overseas Filipino worker and a six-year-old child.
All are in stable condition.
Aside from the laboratory confirmed cases, Baguio has one presumptive positive Covid-19 case resulting to death.
The DOH explained that a presumptive positive Covid-19 case refers to anyone who has tested positive for the virus but the test was conducted at the Baguio General Hospital and Medical Center sub-national laboratory. Samples of presumptive positive cases must undergo confirmatory test at RITM, which is the national reference laboratory.
Meanwhile, there are 680 persons under investigation (PUIs) in the entire region, four of them passed away. Two of the reported deaths among PUIs tested negative of the virus while the other two are awaiting their lab test results.
Among the PUIs, 20 are from Abra; 53 from Apayao, 138 from Baguio City; 384 from Benguet; 10 from Ifugao; 40 from Kalinga; and 35 from Mountain Province.
Eighty-two of the PUIs are admitted in hospital, 401 are under home quarantine, and 197have already been discharged.– Hanna C. Lacsamana
