The first Spartan trail race in Baguio City kicks off on March 19 at Camp John Hay with trails extending to Gumatdang, Itogon, Benguet.
Dubbed: “Baguio Trail Half Marathon and 10K”, the event, which is in partnership with the city government of Baguio, Camp John Hay and Itogon, will feature the 21-kilometer half marathon and 10-km. categories.
Spartan Race Philippines organizer Mark Celis will feature scenic trails with challenging elevation gain and technical trails. The 10-km. and 21-km. will have elevation gains of 515 meters and 1,300 meters, respectively.
The race would be one of the “trailfecta” events this year, including the upcoming Spartan races in Anda, Bohol on April 2 with 10-km. and the 21-km., and 50-km. in Ilocos Sur on Sept. 23.
The “trailfecta” is a series of events where Spartans can complete three distance races including 10-km., 21-km, and 50-km.
He said participants can achieve the “trailfecta” this year without having to go out of the country to join races.
Celis reminded participants to follow health and safety protocols in attending the in-person race, which is backed by the Department of Tourism, Pilipinas Obstacle Sports Federation, Ayala Techno Hub, Merrel, and The Podium Botique Hotel, among others.
Updated schedules for the other leg of the Spartan Philippines race will be in New Clark City Stadium on June 11 while the venue for the La Ruta on July 30 will be announced soon.
The fifth leg is set at the Mactan Seagrove, Cebu on Aug. 13; Boracay in October with the exact date to be announced; and the last leg on Nov. 5 to 6 on a venue to be determined. – Ofelia C. Empian
