BESAO, Mountain Province – Two farmer associations in this town received science and technology interventions to improve production and marketability and a better environment for their production.

The Department of Science and Technology-Cordillera through the Mountain Province Provincial Science and Technology Office (PSTO)  signed memorandums of agreement with Besao for the projects for the two associations.

These projects under the Local Grants-In-Aid program are the “STI for the Muscovado Processing of Pamatangan Saopey Farmers Association, Inc.” and “Solar Drying for the Improvement of the Coffee Processing of Mountain Province Association of Coffee Growers-Besao Chapter.”

The first project aims to empower the Pamatangan Saopey Farmers Association, Inc. by enhancing their muscovado processing techniques through scientific advancements.

The second project will support the Mountain Province Association of Coffee Growers-Besao Chapter in optimizing their coffee processing methods through the use of solar drying technology. 

Minirva D. Songaben, PSTO officer-in-charge, said the parties have roles and responsibilities for them to maximize the benefits of the projects.

Besao Mayor Bryne O. Bacwaden expressed his gratitude for the support extended to their community and farmer associations.

He acknowledged the significant impact of science and technology initiatives on the local economy and the livelihood of the beneficiaries.

Joe P. Colas, president of the Mountain Province Association of Coffee Growers-Besao Chapter, and Ofelia D. Pagosto, president of the Pamatangan Saopey Farmers Association, Inc. were present for the MOA signing together with their witnesses. – Valerie Taguba
