BONTOC, Mountain Province – Government troops encountered 10 members of the New Peoples’ Army belonging to the Komiteng Larangang Gerilya Abra-Mountain Province-Ilocos Sur while conducting operations at Barangay Mainit in this town on Sept. 28 that resulted in the death of two rebels and recovery of war weapons.
Based on the report of the 54th Infantry Battalion, Philippine Army, following a two-hour firefight, operating troops found the abandoned bodies of the two suspected NPA members along with one M14 rifle, nine improvised land mines, two fragmentation hand grenades, two rifle grenades, and various war materials. No reported casualty on government side.
The casualties were identified as alias Ashley/Lando and alias Jaz jai.
Authorities continue to advise the community to be vigilant against rebel groups and their fronts, and enjoin the remaining members of the NPA to surrender and avail of the programs being offered by the government for them to start a new life. – Press release
