A total of 335 individuals in Benguet received their Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged / Displaced Workers (Tupad) payout program of the Department of Labor and Employment.
Gov. Melchor Diclas and DOLE Baguio-Benguet Head Emerito Narag led the payout of P5,250 each to each beneficiary at Capitol on March 16.
Diclas said the beneficiaries who were screened by their Public Employment Services Office were from Itogon, Sablan, Tublay, Tuba, and La Trinidad.
Sen. Joel Villanueva assisted in securing the P2 million allotment for Benguet through DOLE for the program.
Narag said the beneficiaries will be monitored by their barangay captains during the duration of their cash for work. The beneficiaries will work for four hours a day for 15 days, cleaning and beautifying their respective communities.
Narag said a special fund of P180 million is allotted for Benguet for Tupad this year through the initiative of Rep. Eric Yap in coordination with the provincial government.
The amount will be distributed to beneficiaries in the 140 barangays of the province.
The beneficiaries for the first quarter implementation of this program started working last March 15 and will receive their payout in early April with a total amount of P30 million.
Last year, a total of P120M has been given to various beneficiaries of the province under the Tupad program funded by the Bayanihan 2 budget.
Yap said those who did not qualified under the Tupad program would be included in the Assistance for Individuals in Crisis Situation by the DSWD as part of the agency’s protective services for the poor, marginalized, and vulnerable individuals. – Ofelia C. Empian
