STA. MARCELA, Apayao – Parent-leader beneficiaries of the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program here received livelihood assistance worth P75,000 from the municipal government.
The assistance was granted to the parent-leader group in recognition of the support and services they extended to the local government unit and to the Department of Social Welfare and Development before and during the Covid-19 pandemic.
The Sta. Marcela Parent-Leaders Association (SMPLA) has 29 members from the 13 barangays. The group intends to establish an economic enterprise for its members and the community towards self-sustainability and self-sufficiency.
During the ceremonial turnover recently, Mayor Evelyn B. Martinez recognized the contributions of the group and affirmed the LGU’s support to the group’s activities.
“The request was to give an amount for the stipend of the parent-leaders who shared their efforts and time to the municipality. However, the LGU decided to give livelihood assistance as this will help them in the long run,” Martinez said.
“Our 4Ps parent-leaders have been serving as the main link of the program to their beneficiaries and this achievement is a manifestation of their committed services in their community. Let this be an inspiration to other groups to further their quality of living,” said DSWD-Cordillera Director Leo Quintilla.
SMPLA president Jane del Rosario said the group will use the amount to establish a talipapa.
The group is processing their business permit and other requirements for their operation.
The SMPLA was registered with the Department of Labor and Employment in 2019 and is the first parent-leader group in the Cordillera to be recognized by the agency. – DSWD release
