Personnel of the Public Order and Safety Division of the Office of the Mayor held over 91 individuals for failing to wear facemasks or face shields in public places or while transacting businesses.

Of the 91 individuals, 63 were vendors and employees caught transacting business without masks or shields. Twenty-eight were pedestrians.

Ordinance 45-2020, the “Face Mask Ordinance of 2020”, penalizes individuals not wearing face masks while in public.

Violators are fined P1,000 on first offense; P2,000 on second offense; and P3,000 plus cancelation of business permit, when applicable, on third offense.

Authorities are making daily rounds to ensure the compliance of Baguio residents and establishments with the local measure.

The Face Mask Ordinance was passed to prevent spread of the coronavirus disease-2019.

The mandatory wearing of masks is based on the Bayanihan to Heal as One Act, which penalizes disobedience to national government policies or directives in connection with quarantine impositions. – PIO release
