BANGUED, Abra – Abreneans have showed  their support to those living with Human Immunodeficiency Virus/ Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome(HIV/AIDS) as they  participated in the observance of the World AIDS Awareness Day 2020.

The event was highlighted with red ribbon pinning and candle lighting ceremony led by the local government unit of Bangued, Provincial Government of Abra (PGA), and the Provincial Department of Health Office.

“Global solidarity is a shared responsibility. It is not only the responsibility of a certain entity or institution, the Department of Health, Provincial Health Office, local government units, but also everybody. Every sector of the society, whether government or non-government, should be working together in order to prevent, control or stop the transmission of HIV/AIDS. We show the world that we are all in this together, doing something, giving support and treatment or medical services to people living with HIV/AIDS,” Provincial HIV/AIDS Coordinator Lilibeth B. Martin said.

The HIV/AIDS surveillance data presented by Provincial Disease Surveillance Coordinator Laila Bernal showed there were 76 HIV/AIDS cases in Abra with six reported deaths from 1984 to present. Eight new cases were recorded this year.
