BANGUED, Abra – The provincial and municipal government units in Abra bought the harvest of farmers for distribution to households in the province affected by the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) over Luzon in a bid to curb the spread of the coronavirus disease-2019.
Gov. Jocelyn Bernos said the vegetables were sorted and distributed to those in need of food while waiting for relief goods from the national government.
This one of the ways by which the LGUs can help the farmers dispose their products as they have hard time selling their produce during the ECQ where movement of people including transportation are restricted.
She added that by buying the local produce, exposure of farmers to the public or crowd will be lessened.
Bernos added vegetables are a better option because of its health benefits.
Bernos thanked the mayors and other officials in the province for supporting the initiative of the provincial government in buying the harvest of their farmers.
She also encouraged other LGUs to also look into the possibility of buying the products of local farmers at these uncertain times. – Redjie M. Cawis
