Young artists of Abra called to join contests for IP Month
by Christian Allister G. Tubadeza

BANGUED, Abra – Here’s an opportunity for the Abrenian youth to showcase their talents in song writing and poster making.

The National Commission on Indigenous Peoples-Abra is inviting IP youth song writers, musicians, and skilled graphic artists to participate in  the province-wide song writing competition and poster making contest in celebration of the Indigenous Peoples Month this October.

NCIP-Abra Provincial Officer Genesis Quiblado said entries in both categories must concentrate on the 23rd IP Month celebration theme, “Correcting historical injustices for indigenous peoples’ rights and welfare.”

For the song writing competition, participants are allowed to pick their choice of genre but their entries must be their original composition.

They should submit the lyrics of their output with their name and ethno-linguistic group affiliation.

NCIP-Abra will judge the entries using the following criteria: 40 percent for musicality and rhythm, 30 percent for originality, and 30 percent for its relevance to the theme.

Entries can be submitted either to the NCIP-Abra office in Barangay, Calaba, Bangued or to the messenger account of Quiblado on or before Oct. 19.

For the poster making contest, interested participants should use an illustration board and any coloring or painting material of their choice. A written interpretation of the entry must be attached at the back of the illustration board.

Judging criteria for the poster making contest are 40 percent for creativity and presentation, 30 percent for originality, and 30 percent for its relevance to the theme. All entries must be submitted on or before Oct. 19 at NCIP-Abra office.

Winners in both categories will present their respective masterpieces during the Panagyaman program of NCIP on Oct. 21.

Interested parties may visit the official Facebook page of NCIP-Abra for more details about the competitions.
