Automobile Association of the Philippines Driver of the Year Iñigo Anton is now in Malaysia competing in the Toyota Vios Sprint Cup at the Sepang International Circuit on weekend.

The Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA)-grade 1 track has been hosting major international motorsports events and it used to host the Formula One Grand Prix from 1999 to 2017.

The 18-year-old University of Baguio student, who is the 2022 TGR Vios Cup Super-Sporting Class in the Philippines, is driving under Axel Sports which is the team handled by former F1 driver Alex Yoong.

It will be the first time for the young gun to race in Malaysia but he was able to get acquainted with the circuit back in June 2022 when he tested the Formula Renault there.

Yoong has discovered the young Filipino racer during the pandemic in virtual/ sim racing in 2020 and since then has made Anton part of Axle Sports. 

“Iñigo is a special talent and I don’t think we have scratched the surface yet,” Yoong said.

Motul Philippines Distributer-Infiniteserv Int’l sees the potential of Anton as a racer and is giving him full support to be able compete in international races this 2023. 

“We are confident that Iñigo will raise the Philippine flag on the top step of the podium in international races soon,” said Charlie Ong of Motul Philippines. – Press release
