The city council reiterated Resolution 355, which it passed in 2020 that reminded concerned business establishments to strictly abide by Republic Act 10699, or the law that expanded the benefits and incentives granted to national athletes and coaches.
In a recent resolution, the council claimed despite the approval of Resolution 355 s. 2020, majority of business establishments in the city are not aware of the law that grants national athletes and coaches 20 percent discount on transportation; hotels and other lodging establishments; restaurants and recreation centers; medicines; sports equipment; and admission fees charged by theaters, cinema houses, and concert halls, circuses, carnivals, and other similar places of culture, leisure, and amusement.
Because of lack of awareness, the council said many athletes and coaches are not able to avail of this incentive and privilege accorded to them by law.
The council has tasked the Permits and Licensing Division to help in disseminating to private establishments, the discount to national athletes and coaches.
To avail of the discount, the chair of the Philippine Sports Commission shall issue a Philippine National Sports Team ID card and booklet to the national athletes and coaches, which they will present to privately-owned establishments.
Based on Bureau of Internal Revenue Regulation 13-2020, privately-owned establishments granting sales discounts and incentives shall enjoy tax deductions on gross sales equivalent to the discounts extended to qualified national athletes and coaches. – PIO release
