The Baguio Athletic Bowl complex grandstand will be expanded with a project cost of P45 million as part of the more than P500M rehabilitation of the facility.
Works commenced following the recent groundbreaking ceremony led by Mayor Benjamin Magalong and Rep. Mark Go to further upgrade the main sports complex in the Summer Capital.
The expanded grandstand project will include the construction of locker rooms, shower area, gym, and installation of four 50-foot high light towers to illuminate the grounds so that the facility could be used by night time.
The city government recently ordered the removal of the commercial public toilet and has asked the Philippine Army to dismantle its reserve unit’s headquarters within the area to pave the way for the project.
The rehabilitation project includes the upgrade of the old wooden bleachers near the main entrance of the sports complex worth P19M.
Baguio City Sports Coordinator Gaudencio Gonzales added the city will install a sound system within the complex with funds sourced out from the P3M prize won by the city government being the overall champion in the 2019 Batang Pinoy national finals in Palawan last year.
It took almost five years before the next round of rehabilitation took place after the Athletic Bowl went major upgrade with its rubberized track and concrete main bleachers.
Last year, the swimming pool underwent major upgrade complying with Olympics standard and with the installation of a multi-million solar heating system. – Harley F. Palangchao
