Baguio-Benguet Triathlon top bet Josh Ramos has ruled the Penong 5150 Davao Triathlon in Hijo Resorts Tagum City, Davao del Norte on Sept. 4.

TOP TRIATHLETE — Josh Ramos of the Baguio-Benguet Triathlon Team bagged the overall title in the Penong 5150 Davao Triathlon in Tagum City, Davao del Norte on Sept. 4, besting over 500 participants in the event. His parents-cum coaches, Jethro and Lou Ann, also took a podium finish, with his dad placing third overall and mother, placing second in the first Olympic-distance race in the country since the pandemic. — Penong Photo

Ramos completed the race in two hours, four minutes, and 48 seconds, edging other participants in the first Olympic-distance race with 1.5-kilometer swim, 40-km. bike, and 10-km. run.  

Ramos joined the event with his family from the Baguio-Benguet Triathlon team.

Lucian Alejo tailed him and clocked 2:12:36 while Josh’s father and coach, Jet, landed on third place with a time of 2:13:33 in the men’s overall.

Placing second place in the female side of the race is Ramos mother, Lou Ann, who clocked 2:46:47 after being outran by first placer KC Joy Garcia with a time of 2:43:25.

Following Lou Ann, who wobbled in the swim race with a 29:11 time but had the best time at the closing stage at 57:49, was Kriska Sto. Domingo with an aggregate time of 2:49:40 to complete the women’s overall top three.

Winners Joshua and KC Joy Garcia brought home two gold medals as they ruled their respective age group divisions, 20 to 24 and 15 to 19 over the 750-meter open-water swim, 20 km bike and five-km. run race course.

Jethro and Lou Ann also dominated their age groups in the 5150 race, male 40 to 44 and female 40 to 44, respectively, in the race sponsored by Penong’s Barbecue Seafood and Grill, Powerball/ Go for Gold, Davao del Norte, Hijo Resorts Davao, and Tagum City.

 Team Happy Life Tri Team took the all-relay men title in 2:08:11, nipping Team Mind over Miles by mere 17 seconds (2:08.28) with Team Davao Metro Shuttle Trivengers placing third in 2:11:13.

Joshua, a former Ironkids Philippines titlist, will be part of the national delegation that will depart to Kazakhstan for the Asian Championships scheduled later this month.
