If weather permits, the major rehabilitation of the Benguet Sports Complex in Wangal, La Trinidad will be completed by the first quarter of 2022.

Benguet legislative caretaker Rep. Eric Yap said he trusts the Department of Public Works and Highways to meet the March 2022 deadline as he claimed rehabilitation works are on the right track.

DPWH started the construction of the P188-million worth multipurpose facilities, oval, and field March this year. The project includes the installation of a rubberized track.

The grandstand will also be repaired to include bleachers and additional rooms below it as additional areas for the athletes’ training.

Yap, who sourced out the funds for the project, said his office is constantly monitoring the progress of the project being implemented by the Benguet District Engineering Office.

Yap said the construction of the sports complex would greatly help and motivate the athletes to enhance their training for regional, national, and international competitions.

The solon, meanwhile, said he spoke with Team Lakay coach Mark Sangiao to request Benguet State University President Felipe Comila to lease one of its unused facilities to be used as a training center for the country’s most popular mixed martial arts team.

Earlier, Team Lakay has requested the provincial government for a space at the Benguet Sports Complex where its athletes could train and where future combat sports athletes could be trained by team members. – Ofelia C. Empian
