Members of the Benguet Dancesport Team brought home three silver and five bronze medals in the virtual 20th Seoul Cup Korea Open competition held on June 26 to 27.
Besting other competitors from all over the world, the 11-member team was led by Mico Dumalos who bagged a silver medal in the under-20 solo male cha-cha-cha-rhumba-jive (CRJ) and another silver in the U20 solo male cha cha-samba-rhumba-jive (CSRJ).
Dumalos, who is one of the strongest contenders of the team, also won a bronze in the male CRJ and one of the top five finalists in the pre-am male CSRJ.
Mark Gonzalo Benter added two bronze medals in the U20 solo male CRJ and U20 solo male CSRJ while he placed sixth in the pre-am male CSRJ and semi-finalist in the pre-am male CSRJ.
Betty Mae Agad added another silver for the team in the U20 solo female waltz tango quickstep (WTQ) and a bronze in the pre-am female CRJ.
Jayson Ace Abenoja contributed a bronze medal in the pre-am male CRJ and placed fourth in the U20 solo male WTQ.
Erick Cabloy placed sixth in the U16 solo male CR and a semi-finalist in the U16 solo male CJ and CRJ while Eiji Justine Balao was a qualifier in the U16 solo female CR and a quarter-finalist both the U16 solo female CJ and CRJ.
Other athletes who represented the Philippines in the international competition were Ashley Abance who qualified for the semi-finals of U16 solo male CR, CJ, and CRJ; Roschan Escalera, who was a qualifier in the U20 solo female CRJ and CSRJ; and Jessica Ogbinar, who was a semi-finalist in the U20 solo female CRJ and CSRJ and the pre-am female CRJ and a quarter-finalist in the pre-am female CSRJ.
Mary Luz It-itan, meanwhile, entered the semi-finals of the U20 solo female CRJ and CSRJ and pre-am female CRJ and CSRJ while Jhosan Galvez also entered the semi-finals of U20 solo female CRJ and CSRJ and the pre-am female CRJ. – Ofelia C. Empian
