The province of Benguet opened its third temporary treatment and monitoring facility that would accommodate Covid-19 patients, who have mild symptoms or and asymptomatic.
Gov. Melchor Diclas said the 24-room capacity facility, which is in the newly built dorm of Benguet State University in Km. 5, La Trinidad, has been accredited by the Department of Health.
The other isolation center for asymptomatic and mild patients is the 20-room evacuation center in Barangay Wangal while BeGH is reserved for patients with severe symptoms.
At present, confirmed cases are brought to the BeGH to undergo further laboratory testing, physical examination, and X-ray. BeGH has a 40-bedroom isolation area.
Diclas has thanked BSU for allowing the use of its dormitory building as a provincial isolation unit. The governor was accompanied by BeGH Chief of Hospital Dr. Meliarazon Fianza Dulay, DOH-Cordillera Assistant Director Amelita Pangilinan during the opening of the third isolation center.
The construction of the provincial molecular laboratory within the BeGH compound is ongoing. The negative pressure room is being prepared as well as the various equipment needed for the laboratory.
Once completed, the reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction and automated extraction machines earlier donated by Benguet legislative caretaker Rep. Eric Go Yap, which is temporarily being used by the Baguio General Hospital and Medical Center, will be brought back to the BeGH. – Ofelia C. Empian
