The rehabilitation of the oval track at the Benguet Sports Complex could be completed March next year.
Benguet Gov. Melchor Diclas said the upgrade includes installation of a rubberized oval track and revamp of the grandstand and field.
The construction of the multipurpose facilities, oval, and field started on March 9 and could be completed by the end of the first quarter next year, while the upgrade of the multipurpose gym could be completed by November this year.
Diclas said the wood parquet would soon be placed at the basketball court.
“Once the rehabilitation is done, we would soon discuss the usage of the Benguet Sports Complex.Perhaps we would pattern the guidelines with the policy of Baguio on the use of the Athletic Bowl,” Diclas said.
Benguet legislative caretaker Rep. Eric Yap earlier said the government is fast tracking the reconstruction of the P25 million multipurpose gym and the P163M multipurpose facilities, oval, and field.
The grandstand will have additional rooms below it as additional areas for the athletes’ training.
Yap said they are constantly monitoring the upgrade of the sports complex, which is being implemented by the Provincial Engineering District Office and funded by the Department of Public Works and Highways.
The sports complex is seen to host the Palarong Pambansa in the future, with its structures being made sure to be in line with national and international standards in sports facilities.
Diclas said the area has already been fenced for security and maintenance in preparation for sports activities once restrictions are lifted. – Ofelia C. Empian
