Benguet athletes, who won medals in the 31st Southeast Asian Games in Hanoi, Vietnam received P90,000 from the provincial government.

In an awarding ceremony at the Capitol on June 20, Gov. Melchor Diclas lauded the 12 athletes and their coaches for their display of excellence in the field of sports.

The 12 athletes honored were led by gold medalists Jean Claude Kitong Saclag and Gina Iniong-Araos for kickboxing and Islay Erika Asiong Bomogao Muay Thai wai kru mai.

Also awarded were silver medalists Claudine Veloso and Zephania Ngaya for kickboxing, Charmea Kingay Quelino for kurash, Carlo Von Basanio Buminaang for vovinam, Jones Llabres Inso for wushu taulo.

Inso also won a bronze medal in wushu taulo while Ngaya also won bronze in vovinam.

The honored bronze medalists were Honorio Banario and Emmanuel Cantores for kickboxing,  Jenelyn Olsim for vovinam, and Ariel Lee Lampacan for Muay Thai.

Benguet Sports Development Coordinator Dean Mark Monang said the athletes and coaches were also given cash incentives.

The coaches honored were Marquez Sangiao, Geje Eustaquio, Ryan Batinay, and Jaybe Ba-neg.

Diclas commended the athletes for bringing honor and pride to the country and to the province, and their coaches for their sacrifice and tremendous effort for the athletes’ training. – Ofelia C. Empian
