Rehabilitation of the Benguet Sports Complex in La Trinidad has commenced with the province eyeing to host national events in the future.
Benguet legislative caretaker, Rep. Eric Yap, said the contractor has been instructed to fast track the rehabilitation to meet the target completion date of the project’s first phase this year.
Construction of the Olympic-size pool will be programmed next year, Yap added.
A budget of P165 million for the improvement of the oval field along with the placing of a Tartan track has also been alloted.
Aside from the running track, the existing grandstand would be demolished to give way for a grander stadium with and additional rooms below it as area for the athletes’ training.
Yap said once rehabilitation is completed, the provincial sports complex could become a venue for the Palarong Pambansa in the future. He said the structures, facilities, and equipment are compliant with national and international standards in sports facilities.
Upgrading of the multipurpose gymnasium, particularly the installation of tiles on the walkway, is also ongoing.
A budget of P25M has also be allotted for the flooring, scoreboard, bleachers, and other accessories of the gym.
Yap said next on his agenda is for Benguet to host a game of the Philippine Basketball Association, following the province’s hosting of Ms. Philippines-Universe. – Ofelia C. Empian
