BONTOC, Mountain Province – The Municipal Health Office has vaccinated a total of 516 individuals out of 892 target vaccinees under the A1 category or frontline health workers.

Of the 892 target, 479 are members of the barangay health emergency response teams (BHERT). However, Municipal Health Officer Diga Kay Gomez said only 223 have been vaccinated. The 256 remaining members of the BHERTs declined to be vaccinated.

Those in the A1 category are frontline health workers.

Gomez lamented  that despite their efforts to educate the public about vaccination, there are still individuals who belong to the A1 category who declined to be vaccinated. The refusal to be vaccinated by those who are in the A1 category has slowed down or delayed the vaccination rollout in the municipality.

The MHO appealed to the Department of Health regional office to proceed vaccinating those who belong to the A3 category or those with comorbidities.

Bontoc Mayor Franklin Odsey reiterated his appeal to the public to avail of the free Covid-19 jabs for their protection and those people around them. He also reminded those who received their first shots to continue adhering to the minimum public health standards. – Alpine L. Killa
