Bike enthusiasts are invited to join the fifth season of the mountain bike ride for-a-cause set July 2 for the benefit of a fellow rider.

The 5th Ambuklao MTB Challenge will take riders on the scenic Ambuklao Road starting at the Adunot Bridge in Itogon to the view deck in Bokod.

The ride features categories for 17 years old and below, 18 to 29, 30 to 39, 40 to 49, 50 years old and above, female MTB open, and road bike open category.

One of the organizers, Samuel Egsaen of Team Kalasag, said the event will benefit Rhey Delmendo, who is one of the organizers of the Baguio Sunday Rides and an active advocate of the ongoing construction of bike lanes in Baguio City.

Delmendo is currently undergoing medication after being diagnosed with spinal cord compression L2 secondary to mass.

“In this regard, we are once again appealing for everybody’s support to this noble endeavor. We also welcome donations from bikers and everyone who won’t be joining the race,” Egsaen said.

Egsaen also appealed to the riders who can donate blood to Delmendo, who is presently confined at Baguio General Hospital. He is in need of AB positive blood which can be deposited at the Blood Donors’ Room, Cancer Center Building, at the BGH compound.

Registration is ongoing with a P750 fee inclusive of snacks and t-shirt. No on-site registration allowed.

Gun starts at 8 a.m. and will be a mass start per category with five minutes increment per event.

Champions per category will get a cash prize with a medal along with the first to third runners up while 4th to 10th placers will get medals.
