The Wastewater, Water and Ambient Air Management Division (WAMD) of the City Environment and Parks Management Office organized an orientation seminar on the Plastic and Styrofoam-Free Ordinance for officials of nine barangays last Sept. 28.

The event was attended by officials of barangays ABCR, Burnham-Legarda, Harrison- Carantes, Kabayanihan, Kagitingan, Lower General Luna, Malcolm Square, New Lucban and Upper Magsaysay as well as representatives of Permits and Licensing Division, Public Information Office, Public Order and Safety Division, Special Services Division, Baguio City Police Office, City Treasurer’s Office, Department of Education-Baguio, and General Services Office.

Engr. Joseph Willy, Pollution Control Officer 3, explained the background information on plastic, their categories and its applications, benefits and limitations, and management.

After the lecture, salient features and proposed amendments on Ordinance 35, s. 2017 or the Regulating the Sale, Distribution and Use of Plastic/Carrying Bags and Styrofoam in the City of Baguio and Executive Order 156, s. 2020 which created the Styrofoam Free Baguio Task Force, were introduced.

After the orientation, the attendees were given a tarpaulin bearing the sign “Bawal ang paggamit ng plastic carrying bags at Styrofoam,” along with salient provisions of the ordinance for posting at their respective offices. – Wilber S. Suanding
