Various playing gyms heated up with the start of the 33rd season of the Baguio- Benguet Educational Athletic League men’s basketball games with defending champions University of Baguio Cardinals and University of the Cordilleras Jaguars both edging equally strong Baguio College of Technology Atoms on weekend.
The Cardinals eased out the Atoms, 66-53, on Oct. 12 at the UC gym courtesy of Claude Leymark Camit firing away 19 points shooting five triples to lead all scorers in the ball game.
The following day, the Jaguars compounded BCT’s problem as it handed the Atoms its second straight loss for the season, 91-77, also at the UC gym.
BCT started strong on the lead with their ball game, 21-22, but then things turned to the advantage of the UC scoring, 46-44, at the close of the first half.
The Atoms were not able to recover for the remaining half of the game as the Jaguars went full throttle with an aggregate of 20 points from its three players, Christian Goesep Valdez with 21 and the pair of 20s from Jerome Meamo and Lydon Matbagan.
Meanwhile, the Philippine Military Academy Cavaliers bowed to last year’s runner-up Saint Louis University Navigators during their Oct. 13 game, 61- 82. 
On the distaff side, the Lady Cardinals were still in tight competition with the Lady Navigators with only a two-point advantage, 67-55, during their match in the UC gym last weekend.
The Lady Jaguars also outscored the Philippine Military Academy Cavaliers, 80-46, during their match.
Upcoming games this morning, Oct. 20, are UB versus Benguet State University Wildcats, and BCT against PMA while the afternoon games will be between Baguio Central University and SLU then UC versus CCDC at the UB gymnasium.
The Oct. 22 schedule is set at the UC gym with UC going against Pines City Colleges in the men’s basketball while on Oct. 26 would be the women’s basketball featuring SLU versus PMA and UB versus UC. The men’s basketball will proceed with PMA vs. BCU, BSU vs. CCDC, BCT vs. PCC and SLU vs. UB.
Men’s basketball resumes Oct. 27 at the CCDC gym with PCC going up against PMA, UB vs. UC, BCU vs. BSU, and CCDC vs. SLU. – Ofelia C. Empian
