The city government conducted a re-orientation on the streamlined contact tracing process for contact tracers as part of the proactive moves to prevent the entry and spread of the Covid-19 variants.
The participants were 70 contact tracers from the Baguio City Police Office, 30 from the business process outsourcing industry, 32 encoders, 40 field contact tracers, and 30 members of the city’s lead contact tracing team.
“We should implement stringent contact tracing measures following the detection of additional Delta variant cases and local transmission in the country,” said City Epidemiologist Donna Tubera Panes who was among the resource speakers.
She said the Delta variant is nearly twice as contagious as the other variants.
Some data suggest the Delta variant might cause more severe illness than previous strains in unvaccinated persons.
The World Health Organization said Delta is now the dominant Covid-19 variant in the Philippines.
Mayor Benjamin Magalong said the city is okay with its contact tracing. “Our cumulative contact tracing ratio is at one patient to 14 contacts so we are good considering the fact that Delta variant’s infection rate is at 1:6 or 1:8.”
But still, the city is continues to working to improve its contact tracing capability. – Joseph B. Zambrano
