The city government of Baguio is inviting the public to share their views on the proposed appearance of the central business district and growth nodes around the city.
Taking the pulse of the public is in line with the 25-year master development plan crafted by the Office of the City Engineer, City Buildings and Architecture Office, City Environment and Parks Management Office, and City Planning and Development Office presented to the public during the 112th Baguio Charter last Sept. 1.
The master plan seeks to make changes for a better Baguio, but making sure it is what its people want for the city.
A mock-up of the envisioned sidewalk called “Green Walks Initiative of Baguio” was recently launched at the foot of the Post Office loop at Session Road showing a wider area for pedestrians to promote walking, a bike lane as part of efforts to make the city biker-friendly, and blended with benches and vegetation in keeping with the image of the city as pines capital.
It also encourages sidewalk etiquette such as keeping right in the walk zone; “clean as you go” in the multiple-functioned furnishing zone; provides an area for trees as green buffers; and “stop, look, and listen” among bikers and pedestrians.
The appearance of the green walks is how the future of Session will look like with the intention of recovering and improving the sidewalks, decongesting Session Road and the entire CBD, and easing traffic and improving air quality.
City Planning and Development officer, Arch. Donna Tabangin said the 25-year master plan is envisioned to be the blueprint, roadmap, and guide towards a concerted effort of rejuvenation and urban development.
