Baguio City is one of the country’s top three most improved local government units in environmental health services.
Department of Health-Cordillera Director Ruby Constantino announced the recognition in a letter dated Aug. 16.
As per Constantino, the recognition is given by the DOH through its Environmental Health and Safe Settings Division to LGUs that have exerted efforts and investments in improving their environment health in terms of safe drinking water supply, sanitation, food safety, governance, and health promotion so their constituents can live a healthier life.
This is in line with the celebration of World Environmental Health Day by virtue of Proclamation 595-2018 that underscores the significance of recognizing the impacts of environmental risks to public health.
Constantino said the evaluation and validation was conducted last July 26 to 30 based on the Most Improved LGUs in Environmental Health Services guidelines and Baguio City emerged as one of the top three winners.
For the feat, the city will receive an incentive amounting to P125,000 to used by the Baguio City Health Services Office for its environmental health programs.
