City not renewing work contracts of 7 POSD men
by Rimaliza A. Opiña

The city government will not be renewing the appointment of seven personnel of the Public Order and Safety Division.

After evaluation by a panel created recently by Mayor Mauricio Domogan, he said it was decided majority of the over 60 personnel will be retained except for seven who were found negligent of their duties.

The mayor said the panel also recommended changes in the number of days when the concerned personnel will be hired. Aside from the six months period, there are those who will be hired for three months only.

Twenty-one personnel have been earlier recommended for non-renewal after a bull session last week, but only seven was recommended for termination.

“We don’t have any choice but to replace them since they are ineffective. I know that the job of the POSD is very difficult, but they should do their work. They are being paid by the city and it is their responsibility to clear sidewalks from illegal vendors,” the mayor said.

The mayor said a spouse of one affected POSD member asked him to reconsider but he said evaluation has shown he has not been performing well in his job.

Parallel with the evaluation, the mayor earlier created a monitoring team that will oversee the overall performance of the POSD.

Domogan said the group would verify issues raised against members of the POSD.

During their bull session last week, Domogan said POSD members who have complaints against their colleagues should identify themselves as anonymous  complains will no longer be accommodated.

Among the complains against POSD  personnel are laziness, special treatment of erring vendors, and ineptitude.
